For all the things i never said out loud..
Hi, I’m the creator of Quiet Currency.
I created this space because, for a long time, I felt like there wasn’t a place for people like me.
As a first-born daughter in an African household, I often felt like there was no room to express how I truly felt. Every milestone I wanted to reach, every dream I wanted to explore, every path I wanted to take seemed to be met with the same response: “That’s not how we did it.” Instead of being encouraged to discover who I was, I was often reminded of who I was expected to be.
I know what it’s like to feel stunted in your own home. To feel misunderstood while still loving your family. To crave independence but carry guilt for wanting it. To count down the days until you’re back on a college campus because, for a little while, you can breathe, think, and exist without feeling suffocated by expectations.
For a long time, I thought I was alone in that feeling.
Then I realized there are thousands of us.
Quiet Currency was created for the children who grew up carrying more than they should have. For the firstborns who were expected to lead before they were ready. For the responsible ones. The misunderstood ones. The children who became translators, role models, therapists, and examples. For the ones labeled “difficult” or “rebellious” simply because they wanted the freedom to become themselves.
Most importantly, this space is for anyone who has ever felt like nobody would understand what they were going through.
Here, your story matters.
Here, you don’t have to explain why certain expectations feel heavy.
Here, you don’t have to shrink yourself to make other people comfortable.
Welcome to Quiet Currency.
The Weight We Inherited.
